Biography

Laura is a seasoned regulatory compliance and internal audit executive with over 20 years of experience leading compliance and audit programs at large financial institutions as well as mid-sized and community banks. She has held roles in all three lines of defense, with the majority of experience focused on second line compliance program building and regulatory remediation.  Her areas of technical expertise include BSA/AML, all aspects of consumer protection including Fair Lending and UDAAP, and Corporate Ethics Programs. Her areas of functional expertise include global policy development and standardization, risk assessment, training, regulatory change management, new product change management, board reporting, and regulatory exam management. Laura has led major regulatory remediation and transformation initiatives for FinTech firms/Money Services Business (“MSB’s”), large global banks and US branches of foreign banks. She has deep experience helping a variety of financial institutions navigate thru transformation initiatives, as well as enforcement actions, including experience working directly with multiple court appointed Monitors under DOJ and State Attorneys General orders. Laura has hands on experience working with key federal and state Banking regulators including the FRB, OCC, FDIC, CFPB, FTC, and States of TX, NY and CA, among others. Laura has also worked and partnered with various global financial regulators in the development of global standards and guidance.

Laura was previously the Chief Compliance Officer (“CCO”) of Independent Financial Bank, and the CCO of Texas Capital Bank. Laura also led the transformation of the regulatory compliance internal audit function at USAA. Prior to USAA, Laura was the Vice President of Compliance Programs at the world’s largest and second largest MSB’s, and was a leader in a global consulting firm known for helping troubled financial institutions with regulatory compliance issues. Laura began her career as an auditor at the Federal Reserve Bank – 10th District.  Laura resides in Dallas, Texas with her family including two teenagers and two very needy Goldendoodles.
