Mitchell Sandler Expands and Deepens Regulatory Compliance and Litigation & Enforcement Practices with the Addition of Veteran Federal Reserve Board Managing Counsel Jeremy Hochberg

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 12, 2023 – Mitchell Sandler announced today that veteran Federal Reserve Board managing counsel Jeremy W. Hochberg has joined the firm as senior counsel. Hochberg joins Mitchell Sandler after serving more than seven years at the Board as the managing counsel for supervisory policy and outreach and as a UDAAP enforcement counsel.

“I chose Mitchell Sandler because it is the perfect place to begin the next chapter in my career,” said Hochberg. “I look forward to working with the firm’s talented team of practitioners and bringing my 20 years of experience in public and private practice to help clients navigate a shifting regulatory and enforcement landscape.”

While at the Federal Reserve Board, Hochberg developed consumer compliance policies and brought UDAAP enforcement actions involving a variety of issues such as balance transfer credit cards and zombie debt, deposit account add-on products, over-limit and expedited payment fees, and unearned discount points.

Prior to his tenure at the Federal Reserve Board, Hochberg spent nearly a decade in private practice advising banks, financial services companies, and third-party service providers on regulatory compliance and enforcement matters. He regularly represented clients on fair lending and responsible banking issues, including UDAAP matters and matters involving claims of disparate impact and disparate treatment.

Hochberg began his career as an enforcement attorney at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where his investigations resulted in prohibitions, cease and desist orders, restitution, and civil money penalties against banks and institution-affiliated parties.

“Jeremy brings to Mitchell Sandler the ideal combination of regulatory and enforcement experience viewed through a public and private sector lens,” said Andrea Mitchell, founder and managing partner of Mitchell Sandler. “With heightened attention from regulators and enforcement agencies on fair and responsible banking issues, Jeremy will be a valuable resource for our clients as we guide them through their greatest challenges in this space.”

Since the firm’s launch in 2019, Mitchell Sandler has undertaken to build the nation’s premier boutique financial services, fintech, and civil litigation law firm focused primarily on advising clients on issues relating to both traditional banking products and cutting-edge financial products and payment technologies. That practice focuses on, among other things, the complex banking and financial services regulations that affect banking products and services.
