Washington, D.C. - Mitchell Sandler today announced expansion of its financial services legal team with the addition of Jenna Burke who joins the firm from the Consumer Bankers Association where she served as Associate General Counsel.
Jenna has a unique and diverse background in financial services and litigation. After starting her career as a prosecutor in the Santa Fe district attorney’s office, she transitioned into her banking career by serving as counsel for the Financial Institutions Division in the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department. Jenna later became a counsel in the Consumer Enforcement Unit at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation where she investigated, initiated and litigated enforcement actions, advised FDIC leadership on compliance risk and unlawful practices by insured depository institutions and third-party institution affiliated parties, and led cross-divisional staff teams to ensure consistent interpretation and application of consumer protection laws.
Most recently, Jenna has served as Associate General Counsel for the Consumer Bankers Association, a retail banking trade association representing 67 member banks that employ two million people and hold $14.5 trillion in assets. During her tenure, Jenna advocated for member banks with senior officials at the federal bank regulatory and enforcement agencies. She authored comment letters on proposed rules and prepared legal, policy and legislative analyses on key issues facing the banking industry.
“When we founded Mitchell Sandler, we set out to create a firm that attracted smart and energetic attorneys with a passion for helping financial institutions and fintech companies tackle their business and legal challenges,” commented Managing Partner Andrea Mitchell. “With her extensive regulatory, litigation and policy experience in financial services and reputation for being a strong and stable voice for the industry, Jenna will strengthen and diversify our capabilities.”
