Alex Acree is a Partner at Mitchell Sandler LLC. He has spent his career at the intersection of technology, finance, and law as an advisor, entrepreneur, and investor in financial services and other regulated industries. Alex advises clients on a wide range of matters, including transactions, legislative and regulatory issues, investment management, and corporate governance. Alex has deep experience counseling innovative technology companies through their lifecycles as well as investment firms in connection with the formation and management of private funds.
In addition to his role at Mitchell Sandler, Alex is the founder and Managing Partner of the Takoma Group, a hybrid investment and advisory firm focused on supporting companies and their investors innovating in highly regulated industries. Alex previously served as Managing Director and General Counsel at Fenway Summer Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, where he served on the investment committee and invested in and advised fintech and regtech companies. Earlier in his career, Alex worked as a bank regulatory attorney at a global law firm and held a series of senior positions at technology startups.
Alex serves as a director on the board of FinRegLab, a nonprofit innovation center that tests new technologies and data to inform public policy and drive the financial sector toward a responsible and inclusive financial marketplace, and the Reconciliation Education Project, a civil rights education nonprofit. Alex holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, an M.B.A. from Yale School of Management, and a B.A. from Boston College.
Alex lives in the Washington, DC area with his wife and three children.
